Growing up, I wanted to be a Pediatric Cardiologist based on my experienced being a patient of one and seeing what it meant to that physician to see me thrive. I had this goal throughout college, taking all the suitable classes - graduating as a Biologist, taking the MCAT, and even applying to Medical School. I didn’t anticipate how that experience would lead me to where my career is today.While I had the drive and want to be a physician, I had terrible standardized test anxiety and did not perform my best on the MCAT. However, during that process, I realized I had a knack for numbers and patterns. From that knack grew a passion for telling stories through data and making decisions based on trends and patterns. For as good as I am with patterns, it turns out that being a scientist first has helped me to formulate the right questions to ask when investigating data.Now, with over a decade of experience, my passion has turned to data democratization. I want people to feel empowered to ask questions about their data, feel confident talking about it, and ultimately feel assured about making data-driven decisions. One can do this by meeting their stakeholders where they are. For example, in my current role as a Profit Optimization Reporting Lead, I am tasked with helping Engineers identify product cost opportunities. Many of these engineers are not used to viewing financial data but are used to looking at Statistical Processing Charts (SPC). I democratized the data for them by putting the finance product cost data in an SPC visual with the same statistical rules they see daily. Doing this gave them the confidence to understand the data and make decisions.Data storytelling is my passion. I would love to connect with others that feel the same.
