I teach coaching to MA students. We cultivate coaching competencies, dissect change models, and practice coaching conversations. My favorite course explores the question, "How do people change?" - viewed primarily through the lens of interpersonal neurobiology and Christian spirituality.

We were awarded the best gym in Maple Valley in 2019. When I opened the gym, the mission was "becoming fully alive together". In a real sense, I think we accomplished that. Our members experienced more than just fitness through the community at Moda.We were the second gym in the state to adopt an incredibly innovative process called “Level Method”. It allowed us to assess, address, and progress members similar to a martial arts belt system. I'm also grateful to share that we never had less than a five-star review (except a woman who thought we were someone else).

In this role I was responsible for Lake Retreat's brand identity including storytelling, logo re-design, video production, photography and creative assets for web, social, and marketing, a monthly newsletter and other key donor communications.

People don’t wash rental cars. That is, people don’t take the same care with things that don’t belong to them. That’s why I believe in coaching. Rather than posing as an expert, I aim to co-create solutions and actions with clients. Through asking powerful questions, offering feedback and encouragement, and delivering sparks of insight, I’ve helped some incredible leaders start to live a way better story. I have been fortunate to manage some large coaching projects as well (20+ coaches and 70+ clients annually). All told, I have over 800 hours of experience coaching entrepreneurs, ministry leaders, and creative professionals. I'm grateful for the experience because these coaching skills also find great use in more informal, day-to-day settings, team meetings, performance conversations, etc.

I co-founded a gap-year program for young adults. We had a lofty vision for our students that extended into their future - but how were their lives once they moved off campus, three years, five years later? Through a carefully crafted survey, we found real data that we could visualize for stakeholders, donors, and other campaigns. Of course, data coupled with the actual stories of our alumni and students was the most powerful, persuasive cocktail. This project ultimately became a book called “One Year” focused on crafting transformational experiences for the Millennial demographic. Now today, over a decade later, the school is run by one of my former students!

As a young pastor and (oddly) elder, I encountered a wide array of people situations (including firing people, resolving conflict, leading teams, and much more). Perhaps the biggest growth was beginning to form my self-understanding as a leader and the necessity to lead myself well before anyone else. I mentored youth and young adults, built volunteer teams, launched a college ministry, and began to sharpen my strong communication skills.
