As of January 1, 2020 I am the owner and President of Porter Creek Instruments servicing the laboratory equipment needs of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.

Porter Creek Instruments (PCI) is a manufacturers’ representative that sells and services laboratory equipment. We concentrate our efforts in the life science and life science related fields that primarily include: Hospital Pathology, Microbiology and Hematology Laboratories, Veterinary Hospitals and Medical Research Facilities, University Biology and Anatomy Departments.

As the only Software Engineer at B/R Instrument, I am responsible for this project from design through deployment and support. I report directly to the President of the company and work closely with sales, and support staff to develop the solution they need.Created and maintaining an end-to-end control system for B/R Instruments D1160 distillation product. This solution integrates proprietary hardware with a modern Windows desktop user interface utilizing C#, WPF, and leveraging the MVVMLight Framework for a clean user interface. This solution features a Python back-end running on the Twisted Framework for asynchronous data processing.Currently developing a touch screen application using Python and the Kivy framework to build a control system for B/R Instrument distillation products. This system leverages the Python backend developed for D1160 with a user interface targeting a touch screen display.

I have performed in this position as a full time telecommuter. Yearly performance reviews reflect my ability to work productivity on concurrent projects and with multiple teams, some virtual others not. Most recently I became one of three member of the ECLPS development team responsible for a mission critical web application used to manage export licensure between Lockheed Martin, Department of Defense, Department of Commerce, and the Department of State. The primary technology stack is Java EE, Spring, Hibernate using an Oracle database, JSP, and Ext JS. In this role I have quickly learned this large system and its technologies becoming an effective team member in a short period of time.Designed and implemented enhancements for the Performance Management peer and manager review system, a Java EE web based solution supporting over 100,000 employees. Refactored the peer review portion to utilize a design loosely coupling it from the core of the system and created the application’s first AJAX driven user interface leveraging the Dojo Toolkit. For this effort, I received an official company award from the internal customer.I took the lead identifying and solving significant security enhancements to the Performance Management project utilizing the OWASP ESAPI library and design patterns. This included refactoring and redesigning the system’s Front Controller architecture to increase code quality, traceability, readability, and reusability as well as solving security concerns.

As a member of the Orbital TMS* Fixed End Software team, my primary duties included design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new software features for OrbCAD, the company’s flagship product. I was a member of the in country deployment and integration team responsible to installing and configuring OrbCAD for SBST in the Republic of Singapore. I developed and deployed a Python program responsible for sending, receiving, and translating all traffic between a fleet of 30,000 transit vehicles and the OrbCAD fixed end servers. This program successfully enabled servers designed to work with analog radio communications to work with a fleet using the GPRS communications protocol.As lead engineer I designed and implemented a new message translation program utilizing Python and XML to meet the Montgomery County Department of Transportation's specifications.
