Boston, Ma, Us
I managed the website overnights and later on the swing shift, making sure all stories from the print edition receive prominent placement on the homepage and/or section pages. I used news judgment sensibilities to determine the stories I thought would be of most interest to our readers, and then arranged the homepage and subpages accordingly. I designed pages intended to be visually pleasing, adding multimedia, graphic, and photographic elements to stories and homepage/section pages when warranted. I monitored the wires, making sure all breaking news was reflected on our homepage. I wrote and adjusted headlines for stories, keeping SEO principles in mind for both short heads and longer, SEO-friendly headlines. I communicated regularly with members of the copy desk staffs for print sections (news and sports, primarily) about any changes that may be made to stories during the editing process. And on occasion I dealt with HTML/XML code to repair or create an element on the site. Before serving as the overnight producer at BostonGlobe.com (July 2013 to November 2018), I was a part-time producer for a year at Boston.com.
Arlington, Virginia, Us
I edited and wrote headlines for stories, keeping SEO principles and character limitations in mind, and then posted stories on our family of websites. I also made, in consultation with the appropriate editors, news judgment decisions on story placement. In addition, I worked with some special projects pages, whether it's simply editing copy or using HTML code to design a chart. On occasion I blogged on our military sports blog, After Action.
Norwich, Ct, Us
I edited stories and wrote headlines, keeping SEO principles in mind, and then posted those stories on NorwichBulletin.com. I also handled editing and posting of breaking news updates. My print duties included editing stories and designing various pages -- from sports agate to the state and region page. I also handled reporting duties after the last reporter went home for the evening.
Boston, Massachusetts, Us
I handled a variety of tasks: from answering phones on the high school sports desk to going out and covering games on Friday nights while up against tight deadlines.
Us
Filled a variety of roles in an as-needed basis -- I did everything from cover college hockey to put together a weekly community photo page on Sunday nights.
Nashua, Nh, Us
I handled page design and copy-editing duties, including management of section fronts and, on occasion, Page 1.
Altoona, Pennsylvania, Us
I handled production of section front pages and, on numerous occasions, the newspaper's front page, working as part of a five-person copy desk. Working with the news editor, I helped select stories for our Nation & World front page, which I edited two to three times a week. I also handled design and editing duties for Page A1 about twice a month.
Turned details of municipal meetings, human interest stories, business dealings, etc., into comprehensive, cohesive, strongly written pieces for print and Web publication. Honorable mention recipient for feature writing, Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, 2006.
Served in a number of positions in newsroom of student newspaper, including night sports editor, copy editor and sports reporter.
