Manufacturing engineer and research scientist with a diverse background in chemical and optics industries, teaching students from middle to graduate school, and academic research in inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry. Adept at communicating with coworkers, customers, and students of varied skill sets and experiences. Leadership skills developed through years of project management, Lean Six Sigma and project management training, advising on Dean’s committee, directing classrooms, serving as laboratory safety officer, and Treasurer for the Joint Safety Team.SELECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS♦ Collaborated with researchers in the Kodanko research group at Wayne State University to demonstrate synergy between a light-activated ruthenium(II)-based inhibitor and an anticancer drug for the treatment of prostate cancer cells. Our findings establish a new paradigm in multidrug anticancer treatments using photoactivated metalated complexes and suggest this method may be useful in clinical applications.♦ Designed a custom instrument holder using AutoCAD, which was built by the OSU machine shop, to integrate a cryostat into a transient absorption spectrometer. This allowed our research group to obtain temperature-dependent time-resolved transient absorption and emission spectra.♦ Demonstrated a new mechanism of light-activated drug delivery from ruthenium(II) complexes. This work changes the understanding of photophysics in Ru(II)-nitrile complexes and will impact the design of light-activated ruthenium anticancer drugs, photocatalysts, and sensors.SKILLSInstrumentation:nsTA, TCSPC, HPLC, Electronic absorption spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, GC, ESI-MS, 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopy, CV, Gel imaging, Circular dichroism spectroscopy, and CryostatTechniques:Temperature-dependent transient absorption and time-resolved emission spectroscopy, temperature-dependent steady state absorption and emission spectroscopy, Franck-Condon line-shape analysis of emission, quantum yields of emission, ligand exchange, and singlet oxygen production, glovebox work, and DFT calculations on ruthenium complexesOutside of the lab I enjoy playing, writing, and seeing live music, as well as exploring local coffee roasters and breweries.
