Develop and implement a vision and strategy for the Folger’s IT resources, in conjunction with stakeholders across the institution. Supervise a team of 3 full-time staff, plus contract help, to manage the organization’s technology systems and provide excellent customer service to around 160 end users. Spearhead the development and execution of a multi-year IT strategy aligned with organizational goals, in collaboration with stakeholders across the institution. Assess and prioritize long-range technology priorities, map out system lifetimes, and plan for upgrades and replacements as needed.

Built a results-only work environment that prioritized & supported the mental health and well-being of staff. Worked closely with the CEO to lead the executive team and support the Board of Directors. Supervised the fundraising, marketing/communications, field & affiliate operations, education programming, and government relations teams. Served as interim Chief Communications Officer.

Rebooted product development for our legacy "NAMI 360" CRM & event management system, and launched a customer success team to provide technical support, training, and advisory services to the 600+ affiliates who use the NAMI 360 system. Deployed systems, training, and support to enable an international, remote-first operations culture.

Launched a project management office (PMO) to plan, coordinate, report on, and ensure process discipline for all cross-departmental projects. Designed and implemented our first post-COVID all-staff conference ("StaffCon"), focused on team building and staff development. Developed and organized executive team offsite strategic planning events.

Redesigned our on-premise HelpLine (25 volunteers) and launched a cloud-based, Twilio-powered HelpLine (200 volunteers handling 6,500+ calls, text, and chats per month). Turned around the IT department from an over-budget, under-performing, low-morale operation to a high-production, customer-focused center of excellence.

Led the growth team in improving our national membership program, running the National Solar Tour, reinventing our solar co-op marketing, expanding our national volunteer program, launching a national solar rights campaign, and identifying new revenue & partnership opportunities.

Brought web development in-house, allowing faster development of website and web applications. Automated analysis of member engagement data, identifying opportunities to improve our communications, marketing, and membership programs. Deployed new systems (Slack, Asana, HelpScout) to improve internal communications and member support.

Radically simplified the 3-year strategic plan to a single-page document. Redesigned the 200-person volunteer organization to align committees with the major components of the strategy. Implemented project management throughout the organization to keep focus on key objectives. Worked closely with Board of Directors and served as temporary CEO.

Led a cross-functional team in reinventing our communications practice. Brought design in-house and produced three times as many reports, white papers, micro websites than before (at lower cost). Rebranded annual conference and increased attendance and exhibitor participation. Launched new product marketing campaigns that built member support and increased unrestricted revenue.

Redesigned website to simplify publishing member-relevant content. Converted from legacy niche membership CRM to SalesForce and automated annual dues collection process. Automated the download, analysis, and reporting of student data. Launched new online exam product and provided technical support to 200+ PA programs.

Designed and created content for WordPress websites, including high-visibility PR-focused sites, member-focused conference sites, and members-only secure sites (including the organization's PAC website). Developed Ruby on Rails applications for membership CRM integration, conference automation, and secure data sharing between member organizations.

Maintained a legacy teacher certification system (built on Lotus Notes), and began conversion to a new Ruby on Rails version of the system. Automated exam transcript processing from Pearson VUE, removing the need for manual handling of the transcripts.

Led the software engineering team in building the company's core Ruby on Rails/JavaScript application that allowed people to create and order custom t-shirts. Introduced kanban-based workflow to increase how much we were able to get done while limiting work in progress. Unified multiple disconnected CRMs into a single customer system.

Developed a full-lifecycle system in Ruby on Rails to manage the NSF's Graduate Research Fellowship program (OCR for thousands of college transcripts, automated application package generation, application scoring, linear programming model for allocating fellowship awards). Converted other legacy graduate fellowship systems to Ruby on Rails.

Implemented the online Development Report Card -- a national database ranking states based on their economic development laws, regulations, and practices. Launched a national online database of nonprofits that offered Individual Development Accounts. Helped restructure the accounting department, and led the development of the organization's 2004 budget.
