I led the Digital Technology team, including both ecommerce and retail tech, through a major replatorming and significant shifts in business strategy. My team completed and launched a successful Salesforce Commerce Cloud implementation, revamped our test automation strategy, and accelerated our release cadence more than 4x.

PC Express is Canada's largest online grocery retailer. I led a team of 150 developers in extending and rebuilding our core ecommerce platform. I'm passionate about driving team ownership through organizational design, because I believe that the people closest to the problem have the most context on how to solve it. Making that work within a complex corporate environment like Loblaws took many iterations and retrospectives, but paid off when COVID drove an unprecedented level of traffic and demand to the service. We successfully grew the business to more than $2 billion in revenue in 2020, by investing heavily in the technical roadmap and in-store operations.

PC Optimum is the largest loyalty program in Canada, with more than 20 million members. I led a technical team of ~30 to build a modern Loyalty experience for Loblaws, including a React.js client, a Spring API, and two native mobile apps. I managed the architectural decisions, development process, and business context for this major Digital initiative. We were the trailblazers in microservice design, stream processing, and Kubernetes at Loblaw Digital.We launched the program at full, national scale, and I am so proud of everything the team accomplished. It is still under active development, following many of the tenets that I initially laid out.

eCommerce at Loblaw is a major initiative to bring Canada's largest retailer online. In the last year alone, we have launched a Joe Fresh ecommerce site, expanded that to US distribution, launched our flagship "Click & Collect" e-grocery site, and begun on a project for recently-acquired Shopper's Drug Mart. With the resources of Loblaws behind an agile, ambitious team, we see ourselves as having a profound impact on ecommerce within Canada. Our tech team is a highly-skilled group of developers, QA, and support who are dedicated to creating high-quality, maintainable solutions for our group.As the software development manager, I'm responsible for quality and velocity of all development within our numerous ongoing projects. We use an agile process with weekly deployments and peer code review to deliver a product which exceeds expectations. Our growing team of developers work closely with our business users. I also lead technical design/architecture for both upcoming and ongoing development projects, including scaling to millions of customers across hundreds of stores.

At SiteScout, I managed a team of more than a dozen developers and designers on their flagship Real-Time Bidding ad-buying platform. I worked closely with upper management and all members of the team to implement a development process and build/test toolchain to help maintain pace without sacrificing reliability. I also spearheaded several refactoring/re-architecting projects with senior engineers to improve the long-term maintainability of the codebase. Throughout, I helped improve communication across the team, including developing roadmaps and issue prioritization tracking.SiteScout RTB had numerous interesting software challenges, including high-throughput / high-concurrency bid processing, web UI usability and design, statistical and learning models, and "big data" streaming and analysis. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow as a software engineer and as a manager within a difficult environment.

At TCP, I managed a cross-functional team to create and maintain a web application which was responsible for all the informatics needs of a medical research facility, including finance, inventory, and service requests. My role involved requirements gathering and specification, communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, prioritization of tasks, solutions architecting, database design, direct supervision of developers, and a significant amount of time on direct code contributions.
