About Sean Trainor
I'm a writing teacher and a teacher who writes. As a writing professor at the University of Florida's Management Communication Center, I teach graduate and undergraduate courses on business and workplace communication. As a writer, I use the skills I teach my students to make specialized information accessible to non-specialists. Throughout my fifteen-year career in higher education, I’ve taught more than 4,000 students in four academic disciplines across three colleges and universities. In the field of workplace communication, I've taught students ranging from first-year undergraduates to Executive MBAs and Doctor of Business Administration candidates. My work as a writer reflects my diverse interests in workplace communication (the field in which I work), US history (the field in which I earned my PhD), and labor organizing (the field that occupies much of my time outside of work). But, no matter the context, my work shares a common focus on making complex concepts accessible. At present, I'm working on an open-access workplace writing textbook with my UF colleague Anthony Coman. Previously, I’ve published dozens of articles on US history in The Atlantic, TIME, and other popular-audience publications. And, in my role as Membership Chair for my union, the UF chapter of the United Faculty of Florida, I work to make complex aspects of labor law and university governance accessible to union members and non-members alike. If you’re interested in workplace communication, innovative pedagogy, writing for popular audiences, or labor organizing in higher ed, please connect!
