I was based out of the London office which followed an on-site consultancy business model; I worked primarily with public sector clients including the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office. I have spent most of my time consulting on very security conscious projects as a Cloud engineering specialist leveraging my knowledge and experience with AWS. I was the technical lead on a team of contractors and consultants working with a wide range of tech stacks including JVM based microservices, modern JS frontends and spearheading initiatives to introduce AWS Serverless technology to the department. To achieve this I worked very closely with specialist security architects to design, develop and share best practice for engineering robust and maintainable code; leveraging modern cloud technologies in the public sector. I led an internal serverless technologies working group as part of an interdepartmental effort to both modernise parts of the existing infrastructure and ensure that the government is creating scalable solutions whilst getting the best value for money.

I was a member of one Ocados' agile teams developing and supporting the new generation of warehouse management systemsMy team’s tech stack was a cluster of highly available Play web services made up of a number of micro-services using a CQRS design pattern; communicating using RabbitMQ. The applications are deployed in Kubernetes through a Jenkins CI/CD pipeline.• I was the lead developer in a number of my teams largest initiatives including the introduction of functional programming practices and libraries such as Doobie, Hystrix, Argonaut, Scala-check.o I was my team’s security champion meaning, I was the point of contact while our applications underwent external penetration testing. I was a member of the security chapter making me responsible for supporting and often implementing security related tasks and departmental initiatives.o I became the team quality champion and introduced a number of practices and processes for the management and handling of technical debt.o I presented a number of meetings including a technical deep dive on the topic of circuit breakers specifically Hystrix and discussed the wider subject of fault and latency tolerance in distributed micro services. This was co-presented with a team lead from another department whose team used Hystrix in a Java tech stack.o I organized and presented at “15 Minutes with an engineer” and light introductory session in which speakers’ present topics in a casual environment and then engage in a Q&A. I presented on the topic of Scala Check and property based testing as well as hosting a number of sessions for other speakers.

My role at DataCore Software stretched across the development cycle, from design to test. I have helped to build a proprietary test framework for Windows Kernel drivers as well as playing an integral role in the development of the performance profiling tooling built into the flagship product.I wrote development support tooling for the continuous integration environment. I was a Sound Engineer at the students union of my university. My role is very similar to that of any venue technician in that I installed, operated and maintained equipment for events. As a senior member of the crew I also managed other staff in my role as a crew boss in a similar role to that of a production manager. I worked in front of house and monitor engineering roles in Live Production, Broadcast audio and Festival events.

The JCR were a committee created by the students union to represent students living in university halls to both the students union and the university as well as organise and arrange events in and around the university including the full organizing of freshers week and a number of other campaigns and parties across the rest of the year. I ran a variety of student led events, my role varied across every aspect of the event management role from budgeting, planning and H&S to promotion and running the gig/event. I liaised with a variety of companies in order to put the events together as well as hiring entertainment for the aforementioned events. From this I learnt how the different parts of the events industry work together as well as strong negotiation and organisation skills.However the main and I feel most applicable skill I developed in my position here was the ability to pragmatically react in unplanned situations when things went wrong. On a number of occasion when things went wrong at an event I was put in a position where I had to solve unexpected problems in short time and I demonstrated a natural ability to remain calm in these situations to find the best solutions. Problem solving is something I have always considered myself to be gifted at however I think the unique pressure applied by Event Management allowed me to develop an ability to maintain a clear head while trying to problem solve under a lot of pressure.

My primary project as a Software Developer was work on a mobile app supplied to the event management industry used to count patrons as they arrived and left large event sites through multiple ingress and egress points. The product would then collate this data on a remote server accessible to event managers through a web interface which offered intelligent and customisable data analysis.The mobile app was controlled through a Wii remote connected to an Android mobile device phone using Bluetooth. I designed developed and implemented this mobile app. While employed at Event Crowds I also consulted on a number of other development projects ranging from Raspberry pi development to web design.
