About Randy Sears
Experienced Health Care Higher Education Administrator successful in launching and evolving a new educational programs and program operations. Creative approach to program design, meeting student needs in curriculum, career advising, and format. Accomplished in recruiting, admissions, hiring faculty, evolving curriculum and shaping student experience. Prior to entering higher education, I had a successful track record in business development designing marketing and sales programs and developing business relationships. To create value, it is necessary to see the world from the perspective of those being served. Whether that is students, employers, faculty, customers or internal functions. The MMCi Operations role has provided the opportunity to study higher education and health care. The COVID-19 pandemic has made its mark on both and I am hopeful that some of the good that has come from the pandemic will be sustained. One lesson was education could be delivered and student engagement created through the uses of online technology. Yet, my experience affirms the value of face time with classmates and faculty plays a very important part in the educational experience and the growth of the student. Health care too has proven that technology can play a significant role in conducting research and care. The capability for telemedicine had existed for years but with low adoption rates until the pandemic forced it. There were regulatory factors that needed to change, but most importantly, organizations had to be willing to change. As the industry continues to move to value, change will involve regulation, technology, and organizational acceptance. Health Care and Higher Education face similar challenges. Cost, access, and quality are issues both industries face. Both industries are complex, steeped in traditional models of delivery, and facing rising costs at rates relatively higher than other costs of living. Health Care and Higher Education are built upon capital intensive infrastructure that is required in delivery models to date. Yet, new models are knocking at the door. To evolve either will require understanding the reality of why things are the way they are and creative thinking for how to evolve. Borrowing from the book Teaching the Elephant to Dance change in education and health care will require both art and science. As my career continues to evolve, finding opportunities to contribute to getting the elephant moving is what motivates me.
