Then I used available accounting and loss data from Pohjola in order to calculate claims handling costs per claim and in aggregate per different claim categories. Claims were allocated to the categories depending on the size and type of claim (fire, water damage etc.).I answered my first sereach question by calculating several deductible increase scenarios thus simulating the cost effects to claims handling costs.I solved the second research question by comparing claims handling costs per claim in each category to the corresponding average insurance premium.
