Current

The aim of The Social Code is to build an egalitarian world where everyone can benefit equally from the advantages that technology can offer mankind. This includes influencing the way decisions are made about technologies that fundamentally change our society, as well as giving an active and direct voice to the citizen - as the largest stakeholder - in the decision-making process that is typically dominated by small groups of individuals within governments, business and influential organizations. The Social Code contributes to a society in which the collective builds the technological landscape for the benefit of all, promotes the democratic rule of law and prevents power and wealth from being concentrated in the hands of a few, to the detriment of many. The Social Code aims to achieve its goals by, among other things: conducting awareness campaigns, creating and offering tools that reinforce its principles and supporting initiatives whose objectives or practices are in line with the objectives of the foundation. Everything in the broadest sense of the word, related to the overarching objective or promoting it to that end.The Social Code serves the public interest and is not for profit.

Café Saarein – a well-known establishment in Amsterdam's lesbian and queer scene for decades – was looking for a new owner in 2023 and, after an uncertain future, prepared for a new phase. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, during which founders Talisa Harjono, Sterre Marijn Krot, and Sebastian Kersten, together with 40 volunteers, raised over €275k from 3000 donors, the café was taken over and transformed into a foundation on June 1, 2024. The proceeds from the café will be used to support organizations and initiatives that promote the position of women and LGBTQIAP+ individuals.
