I am a biomedical researcher currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Manitoba in Physiology and Pathophysiology investigating the role of gene-environment interactions and how it contributes to early onset type 2 diabetes among First Nations youth. I have experience in various leadership roles, such as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory skills, and leading the DREAM Trainees, a research theme funded by the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM). I developed outstanding communication skills through presentations, scientific posters, abstracts and manuscript preparation in metabolic diseases, obesity, genetics, and Type 2 Diabetes. I have experience in various rodent procedures such as intraperitoneal injection, pancreatic perfusion and islet isolation, blood and tissue collection, glucose tolerance tests, and tail vein blood collection. Additionally, I have experience in various technical and laboratory skills which include western blotting, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real time PCR (RT-qPCR), RNA and DNA isolation, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), basic cell culture techniques with L-MIN6 cells, immunofluorescent staining, and epifluorescence microscopy. I am proficient with Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Bio Render, FIJI, and statistical analysis software such as PRISM and Microsoft Excel.
