As a research engineer at SSCI, I perform bleeding edge engineering development related to autonomous unmanned vehicles. A substantial portion of my contributions at SSCI have been as a key member of the team developing our 'FOCUS' technology: an integrated software package that allows a multi-copter with a camera to autonomously explore a complex urban environment and localize objects within it. Our solution blends innovation in motion planning, computer vision and machine learning to optimize performance by actively adjusting based on the content of the scene. I have played a critical role in shaping the simulation (MATLAB) and real-time onboard (C++) codebases associated with the project, with a particular focus on the navigation task. I was the primary architect of our novel, platform-agnostic approach to "visibility-aware search planning", one of the central technical contributions of the program. I have also played a significant role as an overall systems integrator, building autopilot interface software, writing much of the configuration and startup management scripting, log analysis and visualization tooling, and a bespoke data management pipeline. In addition to software development, I also contributed to the mechatronics / systems design of the multicopter vehicle itself, which we use to test and demonstrate the core algorithms. Together, the FOCUS team has executed hundreds of hours of flight testing as we iterate on the software design.

One of three systems engineers that designed, and supported, ArrowLite: a high endurance, hand-throwable, fixed-wing UAS designed for rapid deployment in military surveillance applications. Primarily, the systems team was responsible for design of the high-level systems architecture, performance and powertrain analysis, flight test and prototyping, and overall integration of flight computer, gimbaled payload, autopilot, actuators and datalink. Also responsible for providing definitions and requirements to structural design team, manufacturing team, flight service representatives, and engineering subcontractors. Extensive time spent on range assisting with flight tests and debugging; responsible for telemetry analysis after incident reports.

Webmaster, graphic designer, programmer and co-founder of small website start-up. Developed branding, user interface and back-end to vastly improve a basic Wordpress foundation.

Worked with the mechanical design team on a high-end video-conferencing product. Designed some sheet-metal parts for manufacture, ran the product’s vibration and shock tests, performed thermal analysis, guided calibration of product’s lighting system, and oversaw rapid prototyping with in-house 3D printer. Independently designed and prototyped a novel retraction mechanism for cable manage- ment.
