"Work with your brain, not with your back", to this day I can still hear my father's voice saying these words to me after a long day of physical labor. However, when this phrase is said to a high school varsity ice-hockey goalie it may take a little longer to click. After high school, I enrolled in my local community college, where after taking a couple of history classes decided I wanted to pursue a doctorate in history. While this path would certainly fulfill the requirement of my father's adage I felt it wouldn't provide an opportunity to bring about an impact within my local community. As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, I can proudly say I love my state from the farmlands in Sussex county down to the shores of Atlantic county. I wanted a career that would present me with the opportunity to get involved and create a positive change for my home state.So I began looking into a career in law, and by doing so realized this was the path I wanted to take. Being an advocate presents me with the opportunity to ensure an individual is given their day in court, to ensure the individual is fully protected within the bounds of the law. A career in law creates the opportunity to get involved legislatively and bring about a change through the state legislature.Spending the past two summers in my local municipal prosecutor's office has shown me the impact a lawyer can have on an individual and has fueled me to want to take up the mantle to be in a position to impact the lives of those within my local community. I have a familiarity with municipal court matters from working with a diverse group of prosecutors and judges during:- DUI trials - Plea Bargaining of minor criminal offenses & motor vehicle violations- review of motions and briefs made before the courtI have gained a diverse doctrinal background that establishes foundational knowledge in a wide spectrum of law by taking classes in:- Environmental law- Bankruptcy- Business Associations- Wills, Trusts & Estates- Family Law- NJ Civil PracticeMy collegiate career has equipped me with the skills necessary to:- Create and draft legal memos and briefs- Conduct efficient, precise legal research using both Westlaw and LexisNexis- Create and draft coherent written correspondence As a 3L in Rutgers law school in Newark, I cannot wait to complete my legal education, pass the BAR exam and begin practicing!I enjoy meeting new people and gaining new perspectives.
