Real-Time C DeveloperNokia Sep 2022 - Dec 2022Kanata, Ontario, CanadaProject: Migrate an existing feature use to traffic capture live traffic from an in-service router to use the pcapng file format instead of the libpcap data format.I worked as a part of the Nokia Service Router team. I was responsible to migrate the traffic capture to use the newer pcapng format. Gained in-depth understanding of Libpcap and Pcapng file structures.· Modernized the existing file format by independently modifying the source code to migrate the captured packets file structure from Libpcap to Pcapng.. Dealt manually with memory allocations.. Worked on remote Linux server.· Performed regular tests using testbeds.· Added new interfaces so packets could be captured at different points inside the router.Technical challenges:* Reading and understanding IETF specifications for PCAPNG format* Reading and understanding existing software and design* Identifying commonalities in output design between the libpcap and PCAPNG as well as new features requiring software support* Designing memory and buffer allocation software for new features in PCAPNG files* Adapting an existing simple communication mechanism between two software subsystems to accommodate a complex data transfer* Extend existing software to enable detailed capture of traffic between software modules including a simple API for use by design team members* Unit testing and integrating software changes into an existing code base* Commit changes to develop software for use in customer systems -
