When I graduated high school, I was convinced that I wanted to become Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada. I started my freshman year of college as a fashion communications major, determined to do exactly that. The year was 2012, and I had participated in my first election. I signed up for a few political courses on a whim, and my interests, worldview and priorities began to dramatically shift.I still loved fashion, but I was becoming more and more interested in culture, philosophy, and politics, and decided to broaden my horizons by switching my major to communications, where I'd have more freedom to explore my interests and develop as a person. From journalism to retail, every job I've had has taught me so much about understanding people and their motivations, and what I can do to not only become the best version of myself but best serve the world around me.Throughout college and my brief time in the post-grad world, what's drawn me most to the communication field and social media is the power that it gives every day people to share their message, speak their minds, and live their dreams when this was once a privilege afforded to an elite few.
