My role as a nursery nurse at Chaston nursery were:Key worker to 5 babies.Helped settle them in by spending the first week with them and their parents, getting to know each other whilst in our environment. The third day consisted of the parent/s leaving for two hours so that the baby could bond with myself and others around him/her. On the fourth day we would do it again but for seven hours and by the fifth day the child spends the whole day with us without their parent/s around. This helps the baby to gradually adapt to the new surroundings and this assures the parents so they feel comfortable knowing their baby is in the best care. Started portfolios to ensure the baby's developments were tracked and provides evidence to use when updating parents of the baby's progress. This included paintings, drawings and pictures of what they had done on a daily basis.Set up activities that helped with their developments using the childcare guidelines picked up from my studies such things like creative, social, physical and language.Also observed their development to see if they are on the right path.Sat down with their parents at parents evening to let them know how their child is doing, how far they have come since they started and what are the next steps.Communicated with the babies using Makaton (sign language).Helped ease them into the toddler’s room once they were old enough to move on.Completed Child Care Level 3 whist working.
