In September, Gomez launched her new beauty company RARE BEAUTY exclusively at Sephora. It was important to Selena to launch a company with meaning behind it. She says “being rare is about being comfortable with yourself. I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me. I think RARE BEAUTY can be more than a beauty brand, I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and just start embracing our own uniqueness. You are not defined by a photo, a like or comment. RARE BEAUTY isn’t about how other people see you. It’s about how you see yourself.”

Earlier this year, Gomez released her critically acclaimed album RARE which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, her third consecutive studio album to debut atop the chart. The album has been met with widespread critical acclaim. In a four-star review, Rolling Stone proclaimed RARE “an act of divine ruthlessness, full of dance-y, mid-tempo clarity.” Variety made the claim, ““Rare” is one of the best pop albums to be released in recent memory…” TIME observed, “Gomez’s message is sleek, subtle confidence…Rare is a pop gift.” People said, “this soulful new album, on which her voice is as sultry as ever, lets us know just how far she’s come” while the Los Angeles Times praised RARE as “her first great pop album.” The first single, “Lose You To Love Me,” Gomez’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, is currently No. 1 at Top 40 Radio. Her fastest-ever platinum seller with 807 cumulative global streams, “Lose You To Love Me” appeared on numerous critics’ “best songs of 2019” lists. Gomez was featured on “I Can’t Get Enough” with Benny Blanco, J Balvin and Tainy. In 2018, she collaborated with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B on the global hit “Taki Taki,” which became one of the fastest videos to reach over 100 million views. Her previous seventeen singles including “It Ain’t Me” with Kygo, “Bad Liar,” “Fetish,” “Wolves” x Marshmello and “Back to You” all have been certified by the RIAA. As a solo artist Gomez has accumulated over 20 billion global streams. At the end of 2017 Gomez was named Billboard Magazine’s “Women of the Year.” In 2015, Gomez released her critically acclaimed album “Revival.” The first three singles off the album “Good For You,” “Same Old Love” and “Hands to Myself” went to number one on the US Top 40 chart. Gomez is one of only six female artists to have at least three songs from one album reach the #1 position since the chart launched in 1992.

Gomez made the transition from young actress to adulthood with Harmony Korine’s SPRING BREAKERS. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim, while Gomez’s performance was singled out as a “breakout.” She appeared in the Academy Award® nominated film, THE BIG SHORT, opposite Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling, as well as FUNDAMENTALS OF CARING, alongside Paul Rudd. The latter film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, and Gomez was named by Vulture as one of the “20 Best Performances of Sundance 2016.” Gomez’s other credits include RUDDERLESS, NEIGHBORS 2, and INDUBIOUS BATTLE, directed by James Franco. She also served as executive producer of the hit Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why” and the critically acclaimed Netflix docu-series “Living Undocumented.”

Giving back has always been an important element in Selena's life. She was named the youngest goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF at 18 years old and has worked tirelessly to support this organization ever since. Selena was honored for her continued support at Variety’s first ever Unite4: Humanity event with the Young Humanitarian Award alongside Bill Clinton. Gomez has traveled to Ghana, Chile and Nepal as an advocate for some of the world’s most vulnerable children. Currently, she works very closely with the WE MOVEMENT and recently traveled to Kenya on their behalf. The organization empowers young people to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change by being active local and global citizens. She has also participated in six WE Days, by either hosting, speaking, or performing at the events. Gomez also works very closely with A21 an non-profit organization seeking to eliminate human trafficking. This year she joined Michelle Obama’s WHEN WE ALL VOTE, a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that is on a mission to increase participation in every election and close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American.
