The Study Centre for Children Migration and Law (Study Centre) conducts both behavioural and legal research on issues relating to refugee and migrant children. In addition, at the request of a lawyer representative, the Study Centre may conduct a diagnostic pedagogical assessment(Child-focused social welfare assessment) in individual cases, which results in a pro justitia report with an expert advice on the best interest of the child. This trainee ship is part of a broader research project regarding unaccompanied refugee minors in the Netherlands. Often unaccompanied minors in the Netherlands are placed in foster families. However, not every match between unaccompanied minors and foster families is a successful one. This project will look at factors behind these differences in success of matching. Tasks in the trainee ship include active involvement in the organization of participant recruitment, digitally preparing questionnaires, and data collection. Once all data is collected I will analyze data of approximately 100 unaccompanied minors, their foster parents, and guardians (using a logistic regression methods) to gain insight in factors influencing the difference between successful and unsuccessful matches between minors and foster families.

The Success for All program is developed for high-poverty elementary schools. An intensive language programme, cooperative learning, routines, tutoring and parent involvement are pillars of Success for All (SfA). As a research assistant I worked on many parts of the Success for All research projects. In this research-group we worked in a team of 7 students on a research concerning perceived stress of students in Groningen (Hanze Hogeschool Groningen and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen). We conducted an online survey (551 respondents) looking at stress under students, copings styles and improvement points for the educational institutions.
