    I will try to unravel the mechanisms behind persistent weather systems. High rainfall or warm weather systems become increasingly economically/agriculturally harmful when these systems are persistent (not one single extreme rainfall event, but a full week of high rainfall). The aim is to discover the drivers that cause the persistence of weather systems and investigate if and how it is going to change in the future. Using the causal drivers, we will hopefully be able to improve predictions so that e.g. hospitals or farmers are better able to prepare for oncoming heat waves.
