About Semih Gulec, Phd

In the Surface Science Lab of Lamar University, I used fundamentals of chemical engineering, material science, polymer science and nanotechnology to study testing equipment development, adhesion phenomena, material characterization and solid-liquid interactions at interfaces. The research was done with the purpose to study solid-liquid interactions and processes associated with friction, lubrication, contact mechanics at the interface, soft matter physics, adhesion and surface heterogeneities. For this purpose, I assisted to develop, build, troubleshoot a novel measurement equipment Centrifugal Adhesion Balance (CAB) and provided technical support to other researchers.I gained in-depth experience with combining hands-on engineering with scientific research, managing multiple projects simultaneously, handling sophisticated characterization instruments (AFM, XRD, FTIR, SEM, Raman Spectroscopy etc.), as well as many software tools.
