My main duties include: - Sourcing the best organic and local produce while maintaining high standards of sustainability. - Developing sourcing strategies that work for both Better Food and the suppliers, helping to build mutually-beneficial and lasting relationships.- Assessing the sustainability of practices in the fresh produce department and implementing procedures to improve it where necessary. - Recruiting, training and retaining staff who are passionate about sustainable fresh produce. - Working with the communications team to create and maintain attractive store displays which not only sell fresh produce, but also inform customers about sustainable sourcing. - Ensuring that the department meet the KPI across all the stores.

I was the Warehouse and Wholesale Operations Manager for The Community Farm in Chew Magna. The Community Farm is a community-owned social enterprise, growing and selling locally sourced and organic food through a box delivery service. The aim of The Community Farm is to help people develop a better understanding of where their food comes from, reconnect with the land on which their food is grown and learn more about sustainable farming. I was responsible for the daily operations of the organisation, which includes delivering to a number of different wholesale customers and a box scheme delivering nearly 500 boxes a week to homes and businesses in the South West. My main duties included:-Managing, overseeing and reviewing the running of the warehouse, yard and logistical functions on site to ensure sustainable, efficient, timely and profitable delivery of orders to box scheme and wholesale customers.-Sourcing the best organic produce from the farm as well as local and overseas suppliers, while maintaining high ethical standards.-Building and maintaining this network of local and international producers, to make sure we offered a truly sustainable, fair and transparent supply of organic produce.- Ensuring high levels of health and safety in the warehouse and enforcing safe working practices and the adherence of all staff. - Ensuring the smooth operations of the warehouse, maintaining a fleet of delivery vehicles and of managing the warehouse staff.- Achieving of Warehouse, Wholesale and Transport KPIs to agreed standards.

In 2013 I co-founded a small organic farm (10ha) with three others. To this day, the farm is still producing organic fruits, vegetables and livestock products for the local market and consumer groups. Farming had declined in popularity as a profession for young people in Asturias and organic methods were not common in the region at the time. Our mission was to prove the viability of organic farming methods and encourage other young people to consider sustainable agriculture as a career choice. My main duties included:- Day to day field work- Managing the farm layout, design and landscaping. - Managing growing and storage matters including production tasks, crop rotation schedules and farm maintenance to a highly sustainable level.- Planning harvest activities, organising operations and helping to maintain produce quality.- Distributing the produce to wholesalers and selling at markets. - Accounting, forecasting and managing project budgets. - Managing the sales and marketing of farm products, liaising with press and encouraging coverage of the project.
