Sepheen Byron, DrPH, MHS, is Senior Managing Director, Quality Programs at the National Quality Forum. Dr. Byron leads initiatives aimed at advancing quality measurement, quality improvement, and accountability in health care. Dr. Byron serves as a subject-matter expert in key areas including preventive services, pediatric health, and perinatal health. In addition, she has worked extensively to promote the use of electronic clinical data for quality measures.Dr. Byron previously was Assistant Vice President, Performance Measurement at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), where she oversaw the development and use of quality measures for HEDIS and other national evaluation programs. She has developed measures used for accreditation, benchmarking and quality ratings, and she has advised entities on use of measures for value-based payment, accountability and quality improvement. Prior to NCQA, Dr. Byron was a research analyst in the Center for Outcomes and Evidence at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, where she assessed the effectiveness of health services. Dr. Byron holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, Master of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Doctor of Public Health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a member of the board of the Postpartum Wellness Foundation and Community Health Accreditation Partner.
