My story is one steeped in Vermont. I grew up in Burlington; bike commuting, composting, and connecting to this bioregion. My parents started Energy Freak Show– a blog on how to create an environmentally-friendly homestead in an urban environment. I was lucky to be able to live and thrive in that homestead and it truly set me up for a life with sustainability at its core.Fast forward to my career in bicycles and a passion for climate-friendly transportation methods. My work has brought me all over the country and I have engaged with communities in Ohio, Washington, and Vermont to increase access to riding as a tool for social change. When you broaden that lens to include outdoor recreation and trail maintenance, I have worked in Wisconsin, Hawaii, and California to make the natural world a part of a full and healthy life for people from all economic, gender, and racial backgrounds. I co-founded the Champlain Valley chapter of Radical Adventure Riders in 2022, which is a grassroots community of femme, trans, women, and nonbinary people riding bikes for equity. I personally lead group rides, maintenance workshops, and am the event director of a 90-person 4-day camping retreat in September, 2024. The equity work that is at the core of the RAR mission is the same dream I have for my local community and the greater globe– Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Climate Action.As I look towards my future, I see myself supporting local communities to build resiliency against the natural disasters that climate change is bringing, working to electrify our lives and using a clean energy grid to do it, engaging with the Just Transition to keep equity at the center of the climate movement and make sure the people most affected by climate change are getting the resources needed to lift themselves out of this disaster. I imagine a world full of community solutions that originate with input from locals, and ensure that there is parity across innovative ventures. I am willing to do the work to bring us there. I have a vision and I’m ready to execute it.
