My name is Sérgio Calvinho, I was born in 1979, in Lisbon. I wanted to be an actor since I was a child and in my late teens I realized I could sing. I studied acting in Escola Superior de Teatro, worked in casting, I was a teacher, worked in the theatre, a little television, and suddenly I ventured into the world of voice over and cartoon voice acting. Very soon I recognized that that was the way for me.Over more than a decade I voiced dozens of cartoon characters, commercials, documentaries. But your focus shifts and a new challenge appears - dubbing direction.Directing voice actors is showing them tools to perform, to merge and live their characters to the fullest. The tools are there, they simply need to be found, stimulated and owned. After all, actors are communicators.In 2024 I start directing workshops for voice actors: breathing, relaxing, speech, posture, certainty become clarity regarding what the work is and how to apply those communication skills to the celerity of studio work.Voice is context. It’s not the same at home, at work, in a public speech or with the old lady neighbor from your building. I’ve been helping voices adapt to contexts for over two decades. Mine included.I’m forever 27 years old, I love what I do! I love to laugh at myself and cultivating in others the capacity to laugh at themselves and how meeting life with a sense of humor is the best way to see the future.I’m married, I have three pets and a lot of nieces. For most of them I’m Timon from Lion King, but I haven’t lost hope of convincing my youngest that the coffee machine makes noise because their uncle recorded it in a studio.
