I am a self employed mixed media artist based in Carlisle, Cumbria, with a diverse range of skills and interests. I work in as many different mediums as I can, preferring to experiment and constantly hone my artistic style than stick to only one type of medium. I run and online Etsy shop, Curio Cat Studio, through which I sell artwork, ceramics and accessories, as well as exhibiting my larger and more abstract work at a variety of shows and exhibitions. I am also the creator and organiser of StArt, a local pop-up art project based in Carlisle, aiming to showcase the work of Cumbrian artists and crafters working in all mediums. I run short-term popup exhibitions throughout the year with varying themes, through which I hope to give artists from all backgrounds a a chance to exhibit their work publicly.My educational background is diverse and I think has a positive effect on my work, as I am inspired by the different fields in which I have studied. I undertook and completed a Foundation Degree in Art & Design at Kendal College in 2012, but decided to go a different route when I moved onto Aberystwyth University in Wales to study history. I obtained a BA (Hons) degree in 2016, my primary focus being gender history in the medieval and early modern periods. I then undertook an MLitt postgraduate degree with the University of the Highlands and Islands (Orkney College) in Archaeological Studies. My main focus was on British Prehistory, particularly prehistoric art and understandings of the experiences of prehistoric individuals. Unfortunately, due to the covid-19 pandemic, I have yet to fully complete this degree.History and archaeology are still a huge part of my life and I am continually inspired by them when I am working the arts field, as arts and heritage are uniquely intertwined. I hope in future that I will be able to work more in the heritage sector and put my educational background to good use.
