I am a recent graduate from San Jose State University with a degree in Kinesiology, specialized in the Inclusive Physical Activities in Communities program. This program prepares students to work and teach in the community, and commonly with special populations. Upon finishing this program I hope to apply to Occupational Therapy school. Occupational Therapy interests me because of my passion for physical activity and experience with the disabled community.I have been an athlete my entire life and have found that it has shaped me into who I am today. As a swimmer I have learned to push myself both mentally and physically as well as to persevere through setbacks in order to achieve my goals. When I injured my shoulder I was unable to swim for a long period of time. However going to physical therapy spiked my interest in physical activity related to therapy, and being able to help others overcome similar obstacles in their lifetime.Through volunteering at Camp Krem, a summer camp specialized for people in the disabled community, I became aware of all the basic necessities that are harder for people with disabilities to access. This limited accessibility encouraged me to think about how people are unable to live their fullest life when they are not accommodated. It sparked my interested in Occupational Therapy's ability to help others in creating both physically stronger bodies and spaces that are practical for the individual. Studying Occupational Therapy will be a way to combine my love for physical activity and desire to help others.
