Senior Sql Server Database AdministratorCmhc - Schl Jun 2002 - Apr 2018Ottawa, Canada Area- Responsible for the Installation, Configuration and Maintenance of numerous SQL 2000, 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014 installations, both on standalone Servers (VM’s), as well as on physical clusters.- Responsible for implementing and managing database high availability technologies such as SQL Server clustering, SQL Server Mirroring, log shipping and replication for our Mission Critical databases to our DR site. In some cases a Witness server is being used.- Responsible for designing and modelling numerous databases for numerous in-house applications. - Extensive experience in modelling, mainly with ERWin.- Responsible for performing and managing daily database maintenance, monitoring and performance tuning.- Responsible for implementing, managing and monitoring daily backups of all our SQL Server environments.- Responsible for the migration of our backup infrastructure from TSM to Commvault version 10. Senior Sql Server DbaMinistry Of Foreign Affairs And International Development Aug 1996 - May 2002Ottawa, Canada Area- Responsible for the coordination and completion of a migration from SQL Server version 6.5 to version 7.0 on a server with over 100 databases in May 2001.Developed a Migration Plan which was presented to Management. - Responsible for manually modifying the syntax of over 700 SQL objects in order to make them compliant with the new SQL-92 standards. This syntax was so case specific that it was impossible to automate the required modifications. The new syntax was applied to the SQL Server version 6.5 objects. These objects were then ready for the migration to version 7.0- Responsible for the overall support of Microsoft SQL Server version 7.0 in the SXID division. 7 SQL Servers are currently being supported. 1 of those servers is a Legacy server running SQL Server 4.21.- Responsible to pass over knowledge and train 1 junior DBA.- Part of a team mandated to develop a disaster recovery plan for the SQL Servers at foreign affairs. Evaluated a number of disaster recovery products available on the market and ended up choosing a software called Octopus which allowed for real-time data protection and high availability by replicating all data transactions from the production server to a HOT spare server.- Used replication to mirror an internal database onto a SQL Server located in the DMZ for internet access.- Responsible for the migration from Microsoft SQL Server version 4.21 to version 6.5 in late 1996. A test plan for the Migration was created. As well, test scripts and stored procedures were created in order to automate portions of the Migration.- Responsible for numerous installations of the SQL Server software versions 4.21, 6.5 and 7.0. As well, responsible for evaluating and implementing (if need be) any new Service Packs and Hot Fixes issued by Microsoft. - Responsible for the daily maintenance and performance tuning of all SQL Servers in every environment. -
Sql Server Database AdministratorSolicitor General Of Canada May 1986 - Aug 1996Ottawa, Canada Area- Prepared and conducted an RFP for the purpose of purchasing a SQL tool that would help in the migration of SQL Server objects and data through the different control environments. Evaluated a number of products from different companies and ended up choosing the Platinum Technologies Enterprise DBA as our tool of choice.- Responsible to train and guide 2 junior DBA’s (CS-2).- Responsible for the overall support of Microsoft SQL Server versions 4.21, 6.5. 3 SQL Servers.- Responsible for the Coordination and Migration from Microsoft SQL Server version 4.21 to version 6.5 in early 1996. - Responsible for numerous installations of the SQL Server software versions 4.21, 6.5. As well, responsible for evaluating and implementing (if need be) any new Service Packs and Hot Fixes issued by Microsoft. - Worked on a daily basis with SQL utilities such as the Enterprise Manager, the SQL Scheduler as well as the Transfer Manager. Also used on a regular basis, the NT Performance Monitor to help in monitoring the SQL Server environment.- Designed, Modeled and Implemented over 20 SQL Server databases in version 4.21. Used the McDonnell Douglas PROKIT case tool to model all of the databases.- Responsible for creating and maintaining the Naming Standards.- Responsible for creating, documenting and implementing reliable Backup and Restore procedures and guidelines.- Developed a VB 3.0 application, which allowed users to register information over the network. Documentation of the application was produced.
