After my PhD study with Prof. J.P. Genêt at the ENSCP, working on enantioselective palladium- and ruthenium-catalysed synthesis of amino acids, I did a post-doc at the MPI, Mulheim working with W.F. Maier on sol-gel chemistry applied to heterogeneous catalysis. I also stayed one year at the Imperial College, London working in collaboration with Prof. D. Craig. Back to France, I have been promoted associate professor at the UPMC working with prof. M. Malacria before my actual position. There, I developed metal-mediated reactions applied to organic synthesis as well as preparation of hybrids chiral polyoxometalates for catalysis. My research interest also focused on preparation of original heterocyclic as possible new rings for biological purposes, new metalloenzymes and total synthesis (https://ipcm.fr/index.php/en/en-research/en-presentation-chembio-group/en-chembio-group-members/en-serge-thorimbert/).For a complete list of publications see :https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Nl_X5ikAAAAJ&hl=fr&oi=sra.

Directeur Ufr De Chimie - Head Of Chemistry DepartmentSorbonne Université Dec 2017 - May 2022Ville De Paris, Île-De-France, FranceWhat an exciting experience!Managing a chemistry department of more than 350 people is a 200% involvement. You have to deal with the recruitment and career management of teachers and researchers, but also with administrative and technical staff. This also includes conflict management! The activity related to teaching is also part of the work of the department head and knowing how to give good advice in the organization of the teaching (from bachelor to master) is not an easy task and a permanent adaptation is necessary!Fortunately, I have been accompanied by a great team, both administrative and scientific, and thanks to them, the work has been fantastic. -
