The human brain holds the key to who we are — our thoughts, memories, and our perception of the world.As a scientist, I study the human brain and behavior at the intersection of perception, cognition, neuroscience, and computational neuroimaging. Vision, our dominant sense, is central to my research. My ultimate goal is to understand the neurophysiology of the visual system and how neural computations produce visual perception and cognition. By studying the visual system, I aim not only to unlock the complexities of vision but also to use it as a model for understanding the entire brain.To truly understand the human brain, we must measure it.As the director of the Spinoza Centre for Neuroimaging, I support scientists and clinicians from Amsterdam and beyond in using the Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, including Amsterdam’s only ultra-high field 7 Tesla MRI.
