About Sergi Avila Sangüesa
I'm a master student at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona (Spain), working mainly at the computer graphics research group ViRVIG and very closely with the neuroscience research group MRG.My main research interest is Virtual Reality. In particular i have researched locomotion techniques and the use of neuroscience literature and methodology to improve the usability of Virtual Reality systems. I am currently finishing my Master Thesis.

Research Internship
Internship within the investigation group MRG - Mutisensory Research Group. A Neroscience research group. It involved helping the reserachers create a Virtual Reality application to be used for an experiment to study the behaviour of the human brain. Our part of the project was to procedurally generate T-Juntion mazes that can be customized by the reserarchers changing the path, textures and decorations of the environment, as well as developing a locomotion system using a steering wheel. It also included the syncronization of the actions performed in the virtual environment with an Electroencephalography machine to measure the electric signals of the brain.

Internship within the investigation group ViRVIG. Development of a Walk in Place Virtual Reality Locomotion system. The goal of this project was to find which gait parameters affect how we percieve the optical flow when wearing a Head Mounted Display. It included the design of an experiment with the goal to create a different mapping of gait parameters camera movement for each user.

Research work in a project about reinforcement learning with the CYENS group in Nicosia. Research conducted remotely and with all communications in English. The goal of the project was to model a city with cars and persons that moved with the goal to reach a parking/building while learning how to cooperate. The agents were trained using unity's Machine Learning Agents Toolkit.

Internship within the investigation group ViRVIG - Visualización, Realidad Virtual e Interacción Gráfica. Research with the goal to find the best option to generate and visualize the lightning in a scene with complex geometry and illumination, with several light sources with different colors. The scene had to be visualized using a VR headset.
