For more than 26 years of work at Odebrecht, Sergio Leao participated in most major HSE studies and projects for the construction business of the Group. From 2013 through 2018 he led the sustainability team at the Odebrecht holding company where responsibilities included the design of the sustainability strategy and the preparation of a new sustainability policy, of comprehensive KPI's on sustainability performance and management of social and environmental risks. His responsibilites included following up on policies and guidelines, communication and reporting on sustainability, global commitments at Odebrecht and external participation as company representative on sustainability. In addition, he coordinated the internal forum on sustainability formed by individual business representatives.In early 2019 Sergio left the full time position at Odebrecht and started his own independent consultancy at Fronteira Sustentável. During 2019 Sergio will maintain the main part of his former responsibilites at Odebrecht as an independent consultant. Before Odebrecht, Sergio was a university professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais for 10 years in the fields of sanitary and environmental engineering. He was also president of the Minas Gerais state agency for environmental protection from 1989 through 1991.
