About Sergio Scheer
Sergio Scheer retired from the Universidade Federal do Parana - UFPR (1981-2017) as Full Professor. Nowadays he is an Associate Consultant at Academic Ventures, as well as continues to collaborate with UFPR as a Senior Professor and research leader at the Civil Engineering Research Center (CESEC). He has a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from UFPR (1979), a master degree in Structural Engineering from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS (1982) and a PhD in Computer Science from Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro) - PUC-RJ (1993). He was visiting scholar at CIFE/Stanford University (2015). With more than 270 papers published, he is a member of ASCE Global Center of Excellence in Computing and ASCE Technical Council on Computing and Information Technology. He is also the 'representative member' of Brazil in the Board of Directors of the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE). He acted as a member of the Working Committee for Information Technology (WC 6) of the International Society for Bridges and Structural Engineering (IABSE) from 2001 to 2009. He was the leader of the ICT Task Group of the Brazilian Association for Technology in the Built Environment (GT.TIC/ANTAC) (2012-2017) and its President from 2018 to 2022. He was one of the of the founders of BIM Forum Brasil (BFB) in July 2020 and the the first Vice-President till 2022. Now he is a member of the Steering Committee of BFB. Professor Scheer has strong experience in Computer Science and Information Technology for applications in Engineering, focusing on Graphical Processing and Visualization, systems development, and teaching and learning environments. He is acting on the following subjects: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), especially in BIM and systems integration, as well as in collaborative work, innovative applications, and educational objects development for engineering education.
