Salvi launched a career as a designer first in engineering and then in the context of applied research for plastics industry and new materials, with ENI Group, as a project manager.He worked in the studio of Michele De Lucchi contributing to some architecture projects and industrial products for companies such as Ciba Vision (Focus Dailies contact lenses), Mandarina Duck, Olivetti, Vitra.Since 2005 Salvi has served as a lecturer at Politecnico di Milano. In 2006, for Polidesign, he created and directed the new advanced course “Design for plastics”, the first on the topic in Italy. He has taught courses at many different universities like SPD, IED, NABA, Domus Academy, Istituto Marangoni. In 2002 he participated in lessons for the RISD of Providence (USA).As a writer he has written essays on diverse topics, in addition to writing papers for events like the international congress of the SIE (italian ergonomics association). His early working experiences led him to write his first book “Plastica, tecnologia, design”, edited by Hoepli in 1997 and presented by Giulio Castelli, founder of Kartell. This book was nominated for the “2002 World Technology Awards”, held in New York, in the field of design. Since 2015 he has worked as a freelance journalist, mostly collaborating to the Italian magazine “Il Test”, as a critic of consumption and industrial product.After a working experience in engineering as a freelance associated designer, he opened his own studio; this studio concentrated on industrial product design, and related product development. He has been also a consultant of CESAP (plastics application development European centre) since 2017, for professional education and industrial consulting.In 1992 he invented the idea “Aut-Aut”, a prototype for a low environmental impact vehicle for the city.
