Sergio Berretta has over 28 years of extensive industrial experience on the scale-up, de-risking, and detailed engineering design of novel process technologies. Early experience includes leadership positions in the engineering design and commissioning of nitrobenzene, chlorate, chloralkali, sulfuric acid, and water treatment facilities worldwide. He has been lead project engineer or project engineer for the design and construction of five large international industrial process facilities. He has been the process engineering lead on over a dozen worldwide design and construction projects. With a primary focus in process and control engineering design, Sergio has technically led or guided numerous SMEs through the scale-up and de-risking of complex novel process technologies. He is also recognized as an expert in the area of Carbon Capture, Conversion and Storage. He is a former manager of R&D for NORAM Engineering, VP and COO of BC Research, and founding member of the Carbon Capture and Conversion Institute. He is currently a professor of practice in the department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia, and works as an independent consultant in the areas of carbon capture conversion and storage, process design, scale-up and controls.
