After his doctorate in computer science at the University of Fribourg, Sergio worked at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center where he developed competences in High Performance and Grid computing. He joined the University of Zurich in 2009 as project director of the Grid Computing Competence Center. He was project manager of several initiatives for establishing a national academic e-infrastructure. In August 2019 he joined the Scientific IT Services (SIS) at the ETH Zurich as group leader of the Research IT Platform group.Highlights* At CSCS, Operational manager of the SwissBioGrid and of the Swiss Multi-Science Compute Grid initiatives.* As infrastructure and application specialist at the University of Zurich, consulted and supported more than 100 research groups from all 7 faculties, in migrating complex data analysis usecases on large scale computational infrastructure; * As infrastructure and application specialist at the University of Zurich, established ScienceCloud - an on-premise academic cloud infrastructure - as a research IT platform.* Worked together with department and institutes to understand their research infrastructure needs and how to develop a strategy for research IT services. * Project director of EnhanceR: a national initiative to provide specialized research IT support to the Swiss research academic sector (https://www.enhancer.ch/).* At the ETH Zurich, architect of the new Research Platform for Sensitive Data - one of ETH’s strategic scientific areas - aimed to allow secure management and analysis of sensitive human research data and offers its services to researchers at ETH and Switzerland.
