Surfer and frustrated musician. --- My career is a balancing act between entrepreneurship, technology, law and marketing. Before qualifying as a Solicitor in England & Wales, I paid for my LL.M studies (IT & Internet law at Queen Mary, University of London) by deploying digital analytics tools and teaching ColdFusion and JSP programming in Brussels and London. Once admitted to practice, I joined a boutique London firm specialized in Ecommerce law before helping set up both a new Dublin-based law firm (Grosso & Maldonado) and founding a Madrid-based digital analytics consultancy (Divisadero). These initiatives were followed by the launch of one of the first Software as a Service startups in the marketing data analytics space (Sweetspot), coinciding with my relocation to New York City. Both Divisadero, already then a leader in its industry with a 100+ strong workforce, and Sweetspot, identified as a leader in its space by Gartner in 2016, were acquired by Dentsu/Merkle (2017) and ClickDimensions (2019) respectively. I co-founded PrivacyCloud in 2018, with Spain’s BBVA becoming the company’s lead investor and business partner. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the company and our partners to undertake a major pivot and I ended up relocating back to London in 2022. I co-authored one of the first books to be published on Internet business law (“Internet, claves legales para la empresa”, Thomson Aranzadi, 2002). I also published the first book on web analytics in the Spanish language, reaching its third edition at the ESIC University Press. I have been a guest lecturer on ePrivacy and GDPR at IE University for the past nine years, and I am a guest speaker at other universities and specialized courses. I also host the Masters of Privacy podcast. I am an investor and advisor in Empathy.co, Capri Bikes, and various smaller startups. I love surfing, hiking, and playing various instruments (all of them badly).
