Along this time we have been reducing the technical debt moving to DDD a more convenient architecture for an huge system like this. I was selected for this work due to my long and deep experience working with SQL Server in my previous work at PCCOM. My duty was to write SQLs to get reports from the data warehouse to the Risk Assessment Department. I left that job when I was accepted at the University of Alicante as a Research Technical Engineer.

I started working in this small startup (5 people included me) on my last year of university. First year, my main duty was to contribute to develop an ERP in VB6 with another programmer. The point was that an ERP needs many interaction with final user and we were a little number of people. So, at the end my work was to develop when I have time and the rest of the time I was working on deployments, fixing customers problems and taking requirements from customers.The programming languages I used were VB6, C# and JavaDuring those years I didn't noticed how valuable was the multidisciplinary knowledge I was getting: Interacting with very different kinds of devices (Workabouts, TPVs, Scanners, Printers, Scales, ...), Designing solutions for challenging issues. Acquiring deep knowledge of TSQL for improving performance in the server and for fulfilling the reporting requirements of the Customers. Learning how important are decisions in technology (we wasted one year of work in a new mobile app in java that never was released because the device for which it was designed never worked as it was supposed it would do with the Java Virtual Machine). But, the most important lesson was how I learned to interact with all kind of customers.Years after this period, when I was in my research stay at the University of Sheffield my deep knowledge of TSQL helped me a lot to provide a solution to some research in log analysis of search engine without the need of writing any line of code, only TSQLs. That solutions was quick and faster than the kind of solutions they were used to use more based on programming. So, I learnt how valuable is the toolbox you collect in your backpack along your career. Show less
