I worked as a part-time intern at SAS Institute where I focus on developing optimization software for conic optimization. I worked with Imre Pólik on several aspects of second order cone optimization problems, and also their applications.

I have performed my internship under supervision of Yan Xu and Joshua Griffin. I had a chance to develop and implement a machine learning algorithm for parameter tuning.hippo: Hyperparameter optimization for machine learning problems- Developed a framework for hyperparameter optimization of machine learning algorithm parameters- Implemented an efficient update procedure for surrogate based modeling- Tested on various instances, currently working on publishing test results

I worked as a Teaching Assistant during my time at Lehigh for several classes.- I had a chance to give a class as a guest lecturer on computational approaches in optimization, specifically about handling numerical problems for primal-dual interior point methods.- I worked as a Simulation (IE 305/404) TA, one of the largest classes in the department, for three consecutive years. I have prepared assignments, quizzes, and taught in lab sessions. I have prepared undergraduate teams for the simulation competitions.- I also worked as a TA for School of Business. I was assigned to IBE 250, Integrated Business and Engineering - Honors Program - Junior Laboratory, where I managed a web-based game for a class of 60 students. I helped students to practice what they have learned throughout the semester.To sum up, I had an amazing teaching experience during my PhD studies. We have started an OR-based community blog (orcomplete.com) with Ahmet Yukselturk in 2012. It was an initiative social media project to write about contemporary OR topics. We have reached more than 7000 visitors within our first year. We also organized 7 web seminars for operations research / industrial engineering students and practitioners.To give an idea, we had speakers from following companies/schools:- Red Hat Software- US Coast Guard Academy- IBM Cplex- NICTA

I spent my summer in Nonlinear Optimization Group under Operations Research and Development Department at SAS. I worked with Joshua Griffin and Emily Nada on developing a state-of-the-art simulation optimization algorithm. We implemented the algorithm and it is currently on its way to production.PARIS: A parallel multi-start approach for discrete simulation-based optimization (SBO)- Developed a state-of-art high performance simulation optimization framework- Enhanced an existing SBO algorithm with parallelization, multi-start and ranking-selection approaches- Provided numerical experiments to show dominance over existing algorithms- Reduced total solution time by 49% and decreased confidence interval by more than 54% on standard test set

Optimization on Internal Logistics Activities in BSH Washing Machine Factory- Worked with a team to improve internal logistic activities in a manufacturing environment- Lead the project team as the project representative- Contributed to development of a decision support system which is used by the company- Proposed an analytical approach that utilizes and combine optimization, heuristic and simulation approaches

I performed my junior internship in Inventory Management department of Mercedes-Benz Turk AS.- Worked on enhancement of inventory management and purchasing strategy of critical SKU- Increased the on-shelf availability of periodic items to 99% and decreased purchasing costs by 30%
