Kathari Water is the water and waste water platform of the Green Growth Equity Fund (GGEF). GGEF is anchored by Govt of India (NIIF) and Govt of UK (DFID). Eversource Capital is the manager of the fund. Kathari Water intends to develop and operate various types of water and waste water assets in Municipal, Industrial and Desalination sectors. These projects would have a singular focus of contributing to a positive environment through water conservation and reuse, reduce water pollution and optimise energy / chemical consumption. Technology + Clean energy and its nexus with water would be an integral part of the agenda. We hope to catalyse an investment of USD 1 billion+ for the sector in India.

Development of 24*7 Urban Water Projects and leading a process for divestment of existing water assets

Managed the development of large scale grid connected solar farms in Rajasthan with total investment of USD 1 bn. With upfront development in land, transmission network and committed buyers of power, the program helped with reducing the risk of downstream investment. This resulted in development of 1000 MW of solar power at low generation cost of under Rs 2.50 per KWhr.

Mumbai/Chennai/Singapore

Managed the scale up of wind power business (850 MW & USD 750 mn) and prepared the organisation for listing in the Singapore Stock Exchange. Build the India organisation with a focus on sustainable O&M practices and profitability. While the listing did not fructify, the lessons learned were useful in the ultimate divestment of this investment.

Chennai

Set up the water business of the Company on the back of successful implementation of the Tirupur Water Project. Developed the business, organisation and relationships from scratch. The unit has a range of deals in various areas of the water sector including urban water supply, industrial water supply and industrial water reuse in multiple sectors including zero liquid discharge projects/desalination. Over the period, projects under management increased from USD 250 million to USD 700 million.

Jaipur

Responsible for Strategy Development, Project Delivery, Investor and Government relationships in the JV Company providing project development and policy advice for PPP projects. Developed projects in the urban infrastructure and tourism areas valued at USD 100 mn

Mumbai

Led the financial close for India’s first PPP project in the water sector, the USD 250 mn Tirupur Water Project. Was responsible for Project Risk Assessment, Concession Agreement Development & Negotiation, Loan & Equity syndication (international and domestic). The infrastructure market was nascent at that time and the project documentation set the benchmark for large PPP projects in India

Bangalore

Responsible for expanding the business portfolio of the Industry systems group with a turnover of US $ 300 mn. Successfully planned and started up new businesses (Eg: AC drives, LV switchgear, full scale service business) in partnership with European HO. Additional responsibility included Process Change Management and Strategic Planning.
