With over a decade of experience in computer science research and teaching, I specialize in human-computer interaction (HCI), human-robot interaction (HRI), generative AI, and extended reality (XR). My mission is rooted in a passion for HCI research, where I strive to merge user-centered design to create impactful and innovative design solutions. As a Visiting Researcher at Singapore Management University, supported by the Mitacs Globalink Research Award, I pioneered a project in collaboration with the HCI group. This project involved developing a conversational agent that empowers non-programmers to create immersive VR experiences using speech, integrating large language models to simplify creation without coding, and enhancing engagement through physical environment integration.I will be a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary, teaching students the fundamentals of coding and fostering critical and creative thinking in programming. Using Python, I emphasize problem-solving and logical reasoning. My commitment extends beyond teaching; I am deeply invested in developing and implementing user-centered design processes, from ideation to testing and evaluation. I have contributed to top-tier HCI conferences like CHI and DIS.I pride myself on being a dedicated researcher with a strong work ethic. My research experience spans various platforms, including robots, head-mounted displays (HMDs), microcontrollers, and web applications.Trained as an HCI researcher at iLab, I continually seek to explore, understand, and redefine user-centered experiences. Eager to learn and continuously improve, I am always seeking new challenges and opportunities to enhance my skills.

Our focus was on Medi, a humanoid robot designed as a caring social companion for pediatric patients, particularly during challenging experiences such as blood tests. We developed and implemented empathetic behaviors in Medi, aiming to create a nurturing and engaging environment. These behaviors enabled Medi to engage in meaningful conversations with children, using a combination of physical and verbal interactions. The application of our research took place at Alberta Children’s Hospital, where we tested Medi's effectiveness during blood draw procedures using the Wizard of Oz (WoZ) methodology. Our approach involved direct interaction sessions, collecting quantitative and qualitative data through questionnaires and video recordings, and thoroughly analyzing these findings. Our study, involving 80 participants, demonstrated promising results, showing that Medi significantly helps in reducing pain and anxiety in children. This research provided important insights into pain management strategies in the medical field and the role of socially interactive robots in Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). It highlights my expertise in HRI and empathetic design, underscoring my commitment to improving pediatric healthcare experiences through innovative technology. This thesis contributes significantly to the field of socially interactive empathetic robots, emphasizing the importance of integrating advanced technological solutions in healthcare to enhance patient care and outcomes.
