From 2017 to 2023 I worked in the Utah Department of Natural Resources, in the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program. As a project manager, I coordinated with agency partners, operators, other stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to identify and safely address abandoned mine openings. This involved shepherding complex projects through a number of stages from NEPA compliance to engineering and construction. As the Program's archaeologist, I advised on cultural resources (Section 106 and Utah Code 9-8-404) compliance and historic preservation, reviewed reports from consultants, and made determinations of eligibility and findings of effect in consultation with partner agencies. I wrote bid specifications, contracted the closure work, solicited bids, and supervised construction.

I worked for Logan Simpson as an archaeologist, and for much of that time was a field director. My responsibilities included archival research, leading crews during cultural resource inventory and site recording, occasional data recovery projects, and writing reports. I worked on projects for public and private sector clients including the Bureau of Land Management, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army, and Rio Tinto-Kennecott Utah Copper. I developed specialties in historic mining archaeology and the prehistoric archaeology of the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau. I worked for MHS for a field season and coordinated from four to eight professional archaeologists during data recovery and shovel test inventory.
