•Contracted to the US Geological Survey to find, preserve and update micropaleontology data of five sediment cores along the Atlantic Coastal Plain. • Developed project plans to recover and piece together unfamiliar and sometimes incomplete data sets so they would have scientific significance.•Developed new R scripts that can be used by scientist unfamiliar with R to statistically differentiate biological communities to conduct paleoenvironmental interpretations. • Performed detrended correspondence analysis, Non-metric dimensional scaling, cluster analysis, and analysis of variance to identify changes is species and species diversity. •The data was published for public record and is currently being written up for three scientific publications.

• Graduate research assistant using benthic foraminifera, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and statistics to understand the impact of sea level fluctuations, and climate on coastal biota and ecosystems.• Planned two field excursions to collect 63 samples for scientific study from the Calvert Cliffs.• Used a combination of grain-size anlysis,and foraminiferal assemblages to reconstruct climate and sea level in the Chesapeake Bay.• Created a new bathymetry across the Miocene sediments based on foraminiferal assemblages and differentiated sequence stratigraphic tracts in the study area.• Collaborated with the federal government (United States Geological Survey) on the Geological Investigations of the Neogene Project.• Presented one poster and one talk at the Geological Society of America.• Published two scientific papers (one first author and one second author) with another in preparation.• Published one paper in the Ecophoria for the general public to understand the significance of the scientific study on climate in their area.•Wrote two successful grants with a total of $2200 in scientific grant money for this project.

•Undergraduate research assistant working on subdividing coastal environments using Holocene foraminiferal assemblages and lithostratigraphy off the coast of Bogue Banks, NC, under the supervision of Dr. Stephen J. Culver.• Coordinated with the North Carolina Geological Survey for field work and sampling.• Logged two cores, representing an inlet and shoreface environment, making notes of changes in lithology, grain size, and biota.• Sampled cores for benthic foraminiferal processing and identification.• Completed basic statistics on the foraminiferal samples and compared the results to previous studies. •Deliverables included a poster at the southeastern Geological Society of America conference, a senior honors thesis, and authorship on a scientific paper.

•Lead a team of 5-10 volunteer tutors to design materials and teach ~ 50 students on cell biology, evolution, and genetics in a fast paced environment.• Conducted private tutoring sessions with students to help identify weakness in curriculum and not only review material, but develop strategies and study habits for future success.•Organized and lead review sessions on basic biological principles for sessions with over 150 students.
