The R&D department at Hy-Tech Drilling comes up with new technologies to solve diamond drilling problems and supports the shop by designing new drill components. My main project was to design a new decanter centrifuge to improve Hy-Tech's closed-loop drilling fluid management system. This involved complex design calculations with many iterations and the development of a 3D model and drawings in Solidworks. I also designed and built three down-hole camera prototypes with lighting for drill hole investigation. I used components from an action camera, electronics components and 3D printed parts to make a camera that was slim enough to fit inside a steel water-proof housing.

I worked here for an eight month term as an engineering co-op student. I mainly did design and detailed drafting of lumber handling machinery in AutoCAD. I also got to do engineering calculations, drawing checking, fabrication, and field work.

This was my summer job every year until 2018. I am now experienced in sustainable trail design and trail building methods. My responsibilities included designing trails, building bridges and other structures, training and supervising new workers, lifting lots of big rocks and digging hard all day.

Sol Mountain Lodge is a ski touring lodge in the backcountry south of Revelstoke BC. In 2012, the lodge owner began developing an alpine mountain bike trail system from the lodge. I have been doing a work stint at the lodge every summer since then with a few other trail builders and have a unique riding experience. Last summer we competed the longest and most spectacular trail, which has been featured in mountain bike magazines and online articles. The trail is above the treeline for the entire length and features lots of impressive rock bridges. It is all built by hand.
