I hold a 2:1 class degree in Visual Communication, which I studied at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design from 2010 to 2013. This degree equipped me with a sound understanding of how to design and market ideas visually & how to target and understand audiences. My degree has provided a solid base set of skills that could continue to develop in the field of professional design and / or communications.Since leaving University, I have worked in environments in which key skills in communication, time management, leadership, customer services and brand identity have continued to grow and develop. Working in management of high-end retail environments (Versace; Heal’s), I have developed a keen sense of the importance of brand image and how that is communicated to target audiences, as well as excellence in customer-facing service provision. I have been proactive in taking on additional roles, specifically in design, marketing and communications. Liaising closely with the Marketing and press departments in my most recent role, this has been a particularly enjoyable aspect of my current job, not least because it has given me the chance to practice and implement the skills I developed at University, and so confirm that the career I want to pursue is in the field of marketing and communications. Outside of my main job, I have also had a number of freelance design & marketing jobs. Utilising my graphics and marketing skills for ABA Tutorship, a company that aims to provide at-home support for families with autistic children. In this role, I re-designed the company’s branding, its marketing materials and re-designed and launched their website; designed flyers and other promotional materials for their attendance at the International Autism Show held in London in 2016, which I co-ordinated and hosted; and oversaw their social media outlets, including – but not limited to – Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. I have also worked closely with another brand called AKO Clothing, assisting them with their branding, the design of a new website and brand awareness on social media; I also coordinated their initial advertising campaign through both photography and film and a number of events. I now feel ready to take the next step in my career, which I have always envisaged would take me into the field of professional communications and design.
