Project: Gorgon (Barrow Island) LNG Gas Project. West AustraliaI led a team of surveyors (minimum of three reports) to manage the surveying/setting out of the access roading and camp village roading. I managed the machine Control of two graders. I was interested in working on this project as it is the largest of its kind in the world. Although it gave me invaluable experience I have returned to the UK where my wife and family are based.

Value £340 Million Project: M1 Widening J25-28 This was initially taken on for an eight week contract to calculate volume predictions and daily volume calculations to monitor ongoing earthworks. The contract became ongoing as I have given key technical support to the Survey Manager. I gave much needed support for technical problems associated with the setting out of batters, drainage, Gantries, Bridge’s, Communication services, CSB (Concrete Step Barrier) to the setting out engineers, and this has also included data conversion of the design (MX Genio Format) for the number of different instruments being used on site (Trimble SCS900, Trimble Survey controller, Leica GSI, Roadrunner and CSV).

Walsall Manor Hospital

Project: Walsall Manor Hospital Value £174 MillionI was able to recommence my employment with Skanska and secured this position before returning to the UK, where I reported to the Project Director. My main role was to supervise sub-contractors in terms of engineering and dimensional control of the project. I created a Document Control system for managing RFI’s and Non Conformances, and wrote a document to implement procedures for Setting Out and As Built Requirements to be utilized by sub contractors, to ensure all sub contractors worked within Skanska quality requirements. I supplied an on site CAD service for the construction phasing of the project. Of course it was very important to construct around the project with a minimum of disruption to the hospital itself. I acted as an interface for the Design Team to the site engineers, checking for conflicts between existing structures and services with the new build which was very important given that we were constructing on a working hospital with a very complex but outdated services system. As a senior employee of Skanska I took an active role in SHE including conducting regular audits and always working within H&S procedures.
