During my time in the monastery I learned about Chinese Medicine, community living, and processes of mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. I was lucky enough to spend time with and learn directly from many great teachers including His Holiness XIV Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, Ajahn Brahm, HH XVII Karmapa, Tenzin Palmo, and Pa Auk Sayadaw.As a monastic, I also deepened my practice of meditation and began leading weekly meditation classes, weekend retreat, and workshops for the community and the local youth. In 2014, I left the monastery and spent two years traveling through India and Australia, visiting holy sites, monasteries, mountains, and partaking in a few solo retreats (including one in a cave in the Himalayas). After this time, I decided to disrobe from the monkhood and find new ways of bridging society together with more meaningful ways of living.Upon returning home, I began receiving requests from public schools to teach meditation to the students and help support the community in a time of depression, opioids, medication, and anxiety. I created the Returning Peace project as a vessel to teach students the skills of emotional management, inner stability, and peace. I then shifted gears to lead Professional Development workshops and weekend immersive Educators Retreats, helping teachers and administrators embody the practices that they wish to see their students receiving. I'm proud to say there are a few school communities who still credit the cohesion of their school's faculty to these retreats.I was then invited to join the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Wellness Team to guide students, grad students, and professors in recurring meditation sessions in hopes of bringing some grounding to these brilliant but highly stressed individuals. I was also then taken on as a member of the Blue Cross Blue Shield wellness initiative to support it's employees with weekly meditation sessions aimed at lifting their collective mental health.Currently, I am in Los Angeles teaching at various meditation centers, mental health clinics, corporate wellness programs, and virtually for my global audience.More info: www.sethmonk.comTalks: iTunes/Store/Podcasts/Seth Monk
