In 1996, my early college years, if you asked what career I was pursuing, the answer was: PGA Club Professional. Manage club operations, give lessons, market the course and work with the greens crew to maintain the course. One day, my awesome boss at the time shared some insight on the job I wasn't privy to: If I want to keep loving the game, don't become a pro. I asked him afterward- what do you suggest I do? He pointed at a beautiful beach resort hotel and said, "go be a group sales manager over there". From that point on, I focused on becoming a sales manager at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort. I immediately left the golf resort and became a bellman at the property. I interned with them, learning everything about the hotel: front desk, housekeeping, banquets, AV, accounting, engineering, etc., and how each played a role in supporting conferences. They hired me after college in conference services, supporting groups hands-on. Now, more than 20 years later, I love the industry more than ever. I embrace my role of "sales guy" with sincere interest in assisting planners of successful conferences, and motivating staff support. I am a great listener, and take great care in understanding the needs of meeting planners, focusing my efforts on the goals and objectives of each event. I consider myself your partner through the process, and I'm more than happy to step outside my comfort zones to make sure you and your conference succeed. Or on the boat catching and releasing some of Florida's outstanding game fish, hunting ducks in the swamp, or seeking out the next best dive restaurant. Otherwise, I'm gonna be hanging out with my little boy and girl......maybe one day, I'll help them find a career they can be passionate about!
