From the beginning I have viewed technology and software as tools to further other ends, whether as a budding journalist, a journeyman lawyer, and ultimately as a consultant and software developer.My current avocation focuses on automation and workflow. My clients are primarily lawyers (and those who deal with legal documents), but by no means exclusively. In a typical engagement, we look at the whole process from client engagement to service to disengagement. In doing so we evaluate manual and automated processes, enforce standardization and consistency and build time saving tools. These may be as simple as triggers in Time Matters or as complex as the most complex legal document a lawyer can imagine, modeled in HotDocs or DealBuilder. The solutions we build are highly polished; they look good, are well thought out and easy to use; but are not cheap. Cheaper solutions often have hidden costs. They include drafting errors; communication errors from an unclear question; requirements for extensive post-assembly editing and review; staff training; and duplicative content. We try to build the most cost-effective solution for client's need.
